Q: How much notice do you require for your cakes?
Both stores usually have 5", 8" and 10" classic dark chocolate mud cakes available all the time that you can just walk in and pick up. Other sizes and flavours need to be ordered and we usually require 24 hours notice for these. Wedding cakes require 1 week notice.
Q: Do you make cakes for special dietary requirements e.g. dairy or nut free, or vegan?
We currently do a gluten free version of our classic dark chocolate mud cake but do not cater to any other dietary requirements. Unless specified, our cakes do not contain nuts, however, they may contain traces of nuts.
Q: How many servings does each cake provide?
The serving sizes below are for large dessert sized servings, for smaller morning tea sized servings the cakes can provide 5-20 extra servings (depending on the cake size).

12" serves 25-30
7"+10" stack serves 30-40

Q: How many words can I fit on my cake?
While we endeavor to fit as much writing on our cakes as we can, due to size and other decorations there is usually a limit to what we can do. Below is a guideline, lower numbers if the cake has a decoration, upper if it only has writing, please also note these are dependent on word length. If the writing is on a chocolate plaque, e.g. the kit kats and M&Ms cake or the whip cakes, these only fit 4 words regardless of the size of the cake.

Q: What is the shelf life for your cakes? And how do we keep them?
Our cakes last 3-4 days but are always best fresh. They need to be kept at room temperature, due to the chocolate content in our ganache icing they should not be stored in the fridge. If you have a large amount left over you can freeze the cakes too.
Q: Can you make shaped cakes, 3D cake or square cakes?
We do an 8" heart shaped classic chocolate mud cake but do not do any other shaped cakes. Unfortunately we do not do 3D or square cakes.
Q: Do you do wedding cakes?
Yes! Please have a look at our wedding section in the gallery and contact your local store directly to arrange a complimentary cake tasting and consultation. We require a deposit of $50 to be paid at the time of booking.
Q: Do you decorate your cakes with fondant?
Our Wellington decorators do not decorate with fondant. However, our Auckland decorators occasionally use fondant, please contact them directly to discuss decoration options.
Q: How are your cakes packaged?
Our cakes are packaged in cardboard boxes, big enough to allow for decorations.
Q: How do I place an order on your website? How do I pay?
To order through the website, simply chose the cake you would like to order from the cakes menu, and select all of the options. once you have added the cake to your cart you will get an option to go to the checkout. Once you follow through all the steps in the check out you will be able to pay by credit card. Please note that all orders require a shipping address even if they are not being delivered.
Q: What happens after I have placed my order?
After you have placed your order, the details are emailed through to us. If there are any issues with your order we will contact you. If you do not hear from us you can assume that there are no issues with your order. However, if you would like to check on things you are welcome to contact us.
Q: What happens if I change my mind or want to cancel my order, can I get a refund?
Unfortunately we do not give refunds for a change of mind so please choose carefully. We are not able to process refunds for payments through the website, however if there are extenuating circumstances we may be able to offer store credit. If you have any issues with your order please contact us directly and we will endeavour to work with you.
Q: Do you deliver? How much does it cost?
Yes we do deliver. Our standard delivery areas are listed below

The Chocolate Cake Company Ltd reserves the right to request additional payment for delivery if bookings are not made within the required time frames or if post codes are input incorrectly.
Q: Do you deliver nationwide?
Yes we do but you cannot book these on our website. Please contact our Auckland store directly for all nationwide deliveries. Also, because our nationwide deliveries are done by courier service we are only able to deliver our traditional cakes without any decoration (outside of Auckland and Wellington).
Q: When will my cake be delivered?
Your cake will be delivered as per the time frame you select in the checkout.
Q: Can I give the courier instructions?
You can enter instructions into the order comments box, we will pass these on, however we cannot guarantee specific delivery times or contact prior to delivery.
Q: How will the recipient know who the cake is from?
We do not include the sender name on our deliveries. If you would like to let the recipient know who the generous cake giver is we can include a note with the delivery card, you can enter this message in the order comments box at checkout.
Q: I want my cake delivered but I can only see the "collect from store" option in the checkout.
All our shipping options are based on post codes so you must ensure that this is correct. If you are unsure you can go to NZ Post Post Code Finder and enter the address you are delivering to. Please ensure that you are using the post code for the street address and not for the PO Box. In Wellington the PO Box locations have their own post codes and we do not deliver to these; please do not use post code 6140. You can only book deliveries for Auckland and Wellington on our website. For nationwide deliveries (outside Auckland and Wellington) please contact our Auckland store directly.
